Audi is once again revolutionizing the industry with new technologies, this time with the Green Light Optimized Speed Advisory system. Also called GLOSA, this system can make speed recommendations to help you minimize the number of times you stop at red lights. Reducing stress behind the wheel and also helping to cut back on fuel consumption, this innovative feature combines practicality with sophistication to make your driving experience unique.

How Does it Work?

The new GLOSA system is now available in 13 metropolitan areas, though Audi hopes to expand that in the future. The system is essentially vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) technology, which means the vehicle communicates with the infrastructure around it to help you catch a string of green lights. This includes information about the distance to stops, speed limits, signal timing, and more, all of which minimizes the number of times you have to spot on your trip.

Why Use GLOSA?

Aside from the obvious, less-stressful driving experience this technology enables, this system can help to reduce the wear and tear that frequent braking causes on vehicles. Plus, because you don't have to accelerate from a stop as often, you'll save on gas as long as you stay within the recommended speed limit.

The future of V2I technology could also soon pair with vehicle start/stop systems, navigation, and safety features, combining semi-autonomous vehicle technology with advances in infrastructure design to redefine driving.

When will GLOSA be Widespread?

There are currently 4,700 intersections that support "time-to-green" technology, primarily in major cities like Dallas, Denver, Portland, New York City, and Los Angeles. More cities are expected to integrate the technology in the near future as well, and we can only hope that means it'll be coming to Memphis soon.
