Audi has developed cutting-edge new Digital Matrix LED headlight technology for its two most advanced vehicles, the 2021 e-tron and 2021 e-tron Sportback.
Each of these next-gen headlights holds 1.3 million micromirrors. Acting like movie projectors, these highly adaptable mirrors send out miniature light particles to illuminate the road ahead.
One of the coolest features offered by this technology is a selection of five different signature lighting animations for when you enter or exit the vehicle. Each of these animation sequences includes special motion graphics and text. You can set these up using the MMI® infotainment touch screen.
Beyond these high-tech animations, Digital Matrix LED headlight technology offers a variety of other visionary features.
For example, the system can project what's known as a "light carpet" in front of the vehicle. This helps to keep the beam out of oncoming drivers' eyes. This light carpet can also move to either side to provide illumination as you're changing lanes.
Digital Matrix LEDs also send out low-beam curved lighting. This lets you more easily spot hard-to-see objects, animals, or people on the side of the road. In addition, they emit arrows of light onto the road to help you guide the vehicle more precisely in its lane.
Many of these on-the-road features aren't available yet for Audi vehicles sold in the United States. However, Audi is working closely with regulators and other government authorities to eventually introduce the full range of Digital Matrix LED functionality for American drivers.
Are you ready to be dazzled by Audi's new headlight technology? It's available as an option now on the Audi e-tron and e-tron Sportback. Both of these all-electric vehicles have started to arrive at Gossett Audi in Memphis, Tennessee. You're invited to stop in for a visit to take either model out for a test drive and see their Digital Matrix LED headlights in action.
